Kawa Of Care Expectations

In class we learnt about the rules that we should be following when using your netbook , so we decided to make a presentation about the four main things that we have to follow when either going on our chromes or placing it in the right areas. Here's mine :)

Maritime Museum

Last week we took a trip to Maritime Museum , we were put in groups of 4 to 5 and we were given certain objects to find as well as taking a photo with the items. Room 13 , 12 & 11 went on the trip & all of us had a great time & I'd have to say one of my favorite moments was when the cannon was shot at 12:00 but here are a few photos :))

Sugar Experiment

Yesterday in Room 11 we did an experiment in groups estimating how much sugar we think is in our everyday foods & drinks. We were all put in groups of 3 to 4 , and we all took part in the sugar experiment. Room 11 had to present it in a way where they used their creativity so they could present there pieces of work in the best way possible. All of Room 11's students had a great time doing the sugar experiment. Here's a few photos :)

Never Give Up - Dream

In class we watched a motivational video about never giving up on your dreams and inspiring students and children to believe in themselves so they can achieve their goals. Watching this video defenitly inspired me to give 100% in everything I do and to make sure I never doubt myself when trying to achieve anything in life. The video also mentioned what Shakespeare had said in the past about "Doubts are traitors" giving our young generation a understanding of why chasing your dreams and not trying to fit into society is the best way. Making sure that your accomplishing all of your goals and doing what you want to do in the future , the main point of this video is to NEVER GIVE UP !! Here's the video :))

Report Writing !

One of our focuses for Writing this term was Report Writing so last week, We were given newspapers to cut pictures out of. Reason being any of the photos that we cut out would be used to put in our writing books, so that we could write reports about them. We learnt about what we are supposed to add in a report, as well as the main keys that reporters always add in their writing pieces. We wrote down what we need to include in our reports and what a report is so we understand what it is and our writing is better. 

Everything we've been learning about report writing all leads up to making our own writing pieces in the future !. Here's a few tips on how to make a great report piece of writing

Anzac Letter

A few weeks ago our main focus was based off of Anzac day, Room 11 decided to make their very own Anzac Letters. Made to be written to family members/Care takers, We also created Anzac Artwork relating to everything that we currently know about Anzac Day. Here's mine !

Dear Beloved Parents,

I’ve been here for a month now, and being completely honest I hate it here. All of the bruised and tired soldiers I see stumbling around, praying and hoping they could make it out alive but most of them never have a chance to say goodbye to their loved ones.

I’ve seen the unimaginable, so I do not wish to talk about my experience for it is too horrific to even think about. I think about the both of you every second of the day, and I truly wish that everything is going to be alright for the both of us.

I do not know when i’ll be back or when this will be over,so please do not worry or fear for me because everything will be okay. We’ve already lost a few men along the way, there were bits and pieces of body parts everywhere, just like a slaughterhouse! Arms, livers my mind was permanently bruised.

Gunshots heard from miles away, everybody crawling into their trenches waiting for the last Post. Only yesterday we lost one of our best men, lying down blood drooling out of his mouth. For about a minute everybody stood there quietly and stared at him. When I get the chance I will write many more letters. I refuse to say goodbye because this is not goodbye, so I love you both and I will see you soon.

Play Dough !

Room 11's Umu !

Last week was Samoan Language week so Room 11 decided to make an ... UMU ! With the help of Mr Faalili and Misses Faalili, Half of the class went to there house to make the Umu, while the other half stayed to set up the chairs and tables in the hall. Not only did Room 11 have the umu but as well as Room 12, Everybody enjoyed the food there was Pork,chicken,taro etc. Here's a few photos that we took when we went to make the umu !

Samoan Language Week !

This week is Samoan Language Week, Learning a bit more of our Samoan culture. Learning a lot of new things such as the language,about all of the islands,the food ! etc. In class we may watch a few videos having to do with anything and everything in Samoa. Samoan Language Week is all about learning new things about that island and if so maybe learning some new words and how to speak in that language.

I'm always excited to learn new things with every Language week but yet I am especially excited for Samoan Language Week (since I'm Samoan) because I would get to represent my culture as well learning new things that I may have not known about. So i'm very excited to say that for a whole week our main focus would be based on Samoan Language Week.

Play Based Learning !

~ PLAY BASED LEARNING ~

In class we did something a bit different... It's called play based learning. What's that you ask well it's were we put all of our chromebooks away or any devices that we use in class, we get blocks,legos,costumes etc and we play. Learning new things and experiencing with new things as well. Reason being it's called Play Based Learning is because we learn from playing with different shapes, objects etc. With no technology only using the objects around the class for a whole block we do this, and we only do this once a week.

I think that the idea is great, I defenitly like the idea of putting away our chromebooks yet still learning something without using our devices only the objects around us/in class. Having to do this for a whole block once a week, is awesome I really enjoy Play Based Learning. The whole class enjoys playing it, having fun as well as still learning from making different things and shapes. I would love to do this again so I'm just waiting for next week.

5 techniques to write AMAZING introductions !

Today we had to finish off a sentence including a question,dialogue (speech or conversation), sound effects, a vivid description and interesting information this sentence was "Guys did you hear about Jen Shaw ? She's been reported missing" we had to respond with 4-5 sentences to sum up our short story here's how I finished off my sentence.

"Guys did you hear about Jen Shaw ? she's been reported missing" only the other day it came on the news, nobody's seen her since last Thursday. Apparently she went for a walk with her brother, he turned around for a second and as soon as he looked back she vanished. In his own words he said he didn't know what happened to her or where she went. But the police said they were going to keep a close eye on him.

Here are the 5 steps you need to follow if you want to make a AWESOME introduction to any type of story that you are writing.

1. Add a question to interest the reader

2.Dialogue "speech or conversation" in your introduction so the reader knows who is in the story

3.Add sound effects to make the reader feel the emotion

4. A vivid description of everything that is happening or is about to happen

5. Add interesting info about what your writing in your story

Dawn Raids .

The Dawn Raids 

The Dawn Raids first occurred around the 1970's, were the palangi people and white people came and raided the Polynesians homes to deport them back to the islands. Reason being racism was still around, The police,pakeha and pacific islanders were involved. Nowadays I think that non-coloured people would be disgusted and embarrassed with how they treated the Polynesians and be very thankful that they made a change, and no longer would police raid pacific islanders houses. Islanders being forced to go back home, they were racist towards our skin colour and our appearance which made them feel like they had the right to treat us differently.

Anzac Day - Research

In class we had to create a presentation including 4-5 questions about Anzac Day, we had to include a screencastify to our presentation.Reading our questions and information out loud,Here's my presentation on Anzac Day.

Have you filled a bucket today ?

Today we read a book on how to fill buckets we learnt about what would happen if we fill buckets and what would happen if we dip into others buckets, the book helped us understand what you can do to fill up peoples buckets and what would happen if they fill up your bucket .
